Project Overview:
This $14,000,000 bond reconstruction project along one of the busiest corridors in downtown Denver, from Market to Colfax, was completed in November, 2011. Improvements included: widening the northern sidewalk to 19 feet and reconstructing the southern sidewalk to 16 feet. Bulb outs were added to the south side to minimize the pedestrian crossing distance across 14th Street.
Improvements along the sidewalk include:
- granite seating areas,
- elongated planters and planter pots with annual plantings,
- shrubs,
- trees,
- street lighting, accent lighting, and wayfinding signage.
Several blocks were reconstructed in concrete. The project took approximately 13 months to complete.
Project history:
From 2005-2009 the Downtown Denver Partnership sponsored the 14th Street Initiative in cooperation with the City and County of Denver. This 14th Street Initiative was aimed at creating a vibrant downtown corridor on 14th Street between Market and Colfax that builds upon the substansial private investment along the cooridor. In 2007 with the successful passage of the Better Denver Bond Program, $10 million was earmarked for this project.
