Grand Junction Regional Airport (Walker Field)

Walker Field 2009: Work on the reconstruction of the general aviation apron, which began in May, will include four separate phases.  The project includes the removal of the existing deteriorated asphalt (20,000 sy) and the concrete (46,000 sy) apron and their replacement with concrete pavement.  All of the concrete pavement is being placed on lean concrete base.  The project also includes 1500 lf of trench drain with storm sewer and inlets.  The project was originally planned to be constructed this summer, fall and into the spring of 2010.  However, the project completion is being accelerated and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2009, weather permitting.

Airport work performed by CWC typically includes the following:
• concrete panel replacements
• spall repairs
• full airport apron (airplane parking areas) reconstruction
• new airport apron paving
• runway construction
• drainage improvement
• storm sewer and inlets
• grading
• subgrade reconditioning and reconstruction
• base course material installation

The majority of all airport work typically includes full-depth concrete pavement construction ranging in thickness from 12" to 16".

Riverton Regional Airport

Completed in early November of 2008, work on the Riverton Regional Airport included concrete apron reconstruction with 12” concrete pavement, taxiway reconstruction, taxiway lighting replacement and upgrades, and the sealing and restriping of the runway.  CWC’s wet batch concrete plant was brought in and used on the job. Jim Levernier was the superintendent on this 3.2 million dollar project.

Gunnison-Crested Butte Airport

The 1.2 million dollar Gunnison-Crested Butte Airport project included a complete apron reconstruction with 12” concrete pavement and the installation of a 250 LF trench drain. The project, overseen by Marc Lenart, was completed in October of 2008.
