The City Park/Ferril Lake project encompassed a wide variety of
improvements to Denver’s City Park area. The largest effort,
known as the Montclair Storm Drainage Project, focused on the storm
drainage work in the surrounding neighborhoods, in the park itself
and regionally, along with the necessary improvements to the 24-acre
Ferril Lake. Work in the park included improvements such as the
reconstruction of the City Park Promenade path, fishing platforms,
wetlands, bird habitats, seat walls around the lake, a new pavilion
plaza, an automated irrigation system and the reconstruction of
the bike paths and roadways, just to name a few.
But perhaps the most exciting aspect of this project was the modification
and reconstruction of the prismatic electric fountain, located in
the center of lake. With the lake drained, the fountain was reconstructed
and restored to its former glory. Built in 1908, it will be functional
once again just in time for its centennial celebration in May of
2008. This was a one-of-a-kind project in which Concrete Works of
Colorado was very proud to be involved.
