The Douglas Highway 59 project in Gillette, Wyoming was substantially complete and accepted by WDOT on September 30th, one full month ahead of schedule. CWC earned an early completion bonus of $1,000,000. WDOT was very happy with the early completion and with the high quality of the finished project. In fact, the concrete pavement was constructed with such care and concern for quality, that CWC also earned a $71,000 incentive payment for the quality of the concrete as it relates to the smoothness and rideability of the finished pavement surface.
A final celebration dinner with WDOT, subs, and the many hard working CWC employees was held on October 10th at Attitudes in Gillette. (See the party photo gallery on this page.)
Work on this project included extensive utility improvements and highway expansion work along Douglas Highway 59, from Edwards Street north to the I-90 ramps. The project began at the end of January, 2008 was broken down into several phases starting with electrical work to include the installation of conduit, the moving and resetting of all of the light poles and the installation of new traffic signals at seven intersections along the length of the project. Pipe work also began in January with the initial work for the installation of the Lakeway Waterline (42" reinforced concrete pipe), waterline lowerings, and a new 12' x 6' box culvert which was installed at the end of March. Concrete work including concrete paving, median work, sidewalks, and curb and gutter began at the end of March. Old roadway removals and excavation and subsequent concrete paving progressed in phases along the highway.
