Santa Fe Drive is a significant part of
metropolitan Denver’s transportation history. In 1917, the first
federal aid project for the State of Colorado was started and involved
Santa Fe Drive from the Denver city limits to Main Street in Littleton,
Colorado. In addition, this 4-mile long project was the first direct
construction project ever bid by the State of Colorado. The major
product of this initial project was a 16-foot wide concrete roadway.
The Santa Fe Drive at Belleview Avenue Phase 2 Project was focused
on construction of a new urban interchange at Santa Fe Drive (US
Hwy 85) and Belleview Avenue (State Hwy 88) in Littleton, Colorado.
This $10 million phase is the most significant part of the total
$25 million interchange project. The Santa Fe Drive portion of the
project is approximately one mile long between Crestline Avenue
and Union Avenue in Littleton.
As with any major transportation expansion project in a developed
urban environment, space is always limited by older narrow right-of-ways,
and numerous built-up urban improvements that confine the roadway
and construction areas. Numerous businesses were relocated by the
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and several existing
structures and buildings required demolition. Close cooperation
between Concrete Works of Colorado and CDOT minimized the relocation
costs and negative impact of demolition delays thereby helping to
maintain an uninterrupted work schedule.
As a result of its outstanding professionalism and high quality
construction work on this project, Concrete Works of Colorado received
the Award for Excellence from the Colorado/Wyoming ACPA for the
Urban Arterial construction category.
