Project Overview
The improvements between 38th and 44th Avenues on Tennyson Street, excluding 39th and 41st Avenues, which have already received improvements and Cesar Chavez Park, will enhance the mobility needs of pedestrians, bicycles and motorists. Once the project is complete, the area will be beautifully transformed with one consistent look throughout the corridor.
This quaint area of Denver will be constructed two blocks at a time with work starting at 44th Avenue and progressing southbound towards 38th Avenue. Construction will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. There will be both lane closures and a detour based on location and demand of the work scheduled.
Streetscape and street reconstruction improvements on Tennyson Street from 38th Avenue to 44th Avenue, include the following:
- Addition of corner bulbouts, which limit the distance pedestrians must walk to cross the street
- Widened sidewalks to ten feet
- Street lighting and pedestrian lighting
- Removal of abandoned trolley tracks
- Replacement of existing asphalt with concrete roadway
- Upgrades to existing curb and gutter
- Installation of new traffic signal at 44th Avenue and Tennyson
- Construction of an underground storm drainage system will be introduced to collect surface stormwater runoff
- Addition of the following enhancements:
• 51 street trees
• 21 benches made of recycled materials
• 16 bike racks
• 13 trash and recycling bins
The $2.9 million streetscape and street reconstruction project is scheduled for completion by late 2011.
A special consideration for the Tennyson Street First Friday Art Walk has been given for construction work to cease early on the first Friday of each month to provide access to the event.

February 16, 2012
Crews are wrapping up final details at the NE corner of 44th and Tennyson this week. (We are mindful that rescheduled First Friday events are occurring this Friday, and we will have the site cleaned up as much as possible.) We expect signs along the project to be installed next week, as well as sidewalk furniture such as benches and bike racks. We anticipate that striping will occur within the next couple of weeks.
SAVE THE DATE! The streetscape and public art combined ribbon cutting is scheduled for First Friday, May 4th. More details coming soon.
We are still recommending the use of sand ONLY on the new sidewalks. Please refrain from using any sort of deicer products or salt. These agents cause extreme damage to new concrete.
All work is weather dependent. Concrete Works of Colorado, Parsons, and the City and County of Denver appreciate your patience during this construction. |
